When you head to your local steak house or grill, don’t be surprised when you are offered a wine list! Taking a bit of wine with your meal is a tradition that goes back to the Greeks and Romans. While the Greeks mostly restricted themselves to white wines, the Romans who could afford it took wine at every meal, flavoring it with things like honey, spices, even chalk to enhance both the wine and their meal as a whole. The history of wine has evolved greatly since then, and today, people are still using wine to complement a good meal.

Table manners can be learned, but tipping should come naturally by instinct. A few people prefer doing what they like. Others may consult their friends or stick to some rule, like paying a tip of 15% of the bill. Leaving behind a tip is vital. It helps the staff evaluate their services rendered to you. Besides giving pleasure, tips develop impressions about you. A fair amount of tip can be an indicator of your class, while making a mess of it can be frustrating and may as well convert the smile into a shock.

Many restaurants have caught onto the idea of email lists to generate return business. These emails will give patrons information such as current specials, deals, promotional offers, coupons and new menu items.
The type of information that is collected is normally name, address, e-mail address and special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries and such. As an incentive to sign up, these businesses offer a discounted or free meal on those special occasions.
